They bring out good sounds with the Goodtime. Take care an good luck with your Goodtime.OH! when it's time for new strings think about the ones sold by the American Made Banjo Co. If I was your brother and you came to me for advice of which of the two banjo's to buy I would have lent you the extra $100.00 to buy the Deering I'm glad you bought the Deering even if you didn't have my advice in mind. I won't bore you with my thoughts on what has happened to good "olde American values". But looking out for relatives, neighbors and your community is not a bad way to live IMHO. I realize, at my ripe old age of 70, that younger Americans may not share the "old style" values that I believe in. I hope my brother or whoever would understand that. I wish I could say i was thinking about jobs and such but in truth is I was mostly looking for a banjo I could play comfortably for a long time. Yeah, it sucks the RK is not made here but IMO it's a better sounding banjo even though it's cheaper. Sounded great as well but not really better than the RK and the RK is much cheaper than the time and money he had in his Goodtime. I'd played a stock Goodtime before as well. It is a very nice banjo for the money and I wouldn't mind having one around myself to avoid straining my back sometimes! I played a fella's Goodtime after the jam a few months ago which he had hotrodded with a hoop and some other minor mods. The store is Mozingo music in O'Fallon, MO and they sell it for $419. It felt like a feather to hold compared to my Tenn20/Tony Pass rig or especially my Goldtone OB-250 (heaviest banjo I've played yet). I played it after the jam and it sounded amazing for not having a real tone ring. The music store where I attend a monthly jam began carrying the RK20 a few months ago.
